Unbelievable fact!

In 1913 a German sausage maker named Friedrich Meyer immigrated to the US with his wife and only son, Mabel. Knowing that he would be persecuted by the other children for being German, Friedrich and his wife decided to hide Mabel's last name and just use his first. So he just went by Mabel. Mabel grew up and took over his father's sausage business and made a fortune. He also changed his first name to Oscar because Mabel was a woman's name. Because that became confusing for people who knew him as Mabel, he would introduce himself in a very peculiar way, which helped people remember his name, and it also happened to become the catch phrase for his sausage company. Hence the phrase, "Mabel only has a first name, it's O-S-C-A-R."
